Davido, the Nigerian pop star, shared that working on his latest album, ‘Timeless,’ served as a healing process following the tragic loss of his son, Ifeanyi, on October 31, 2022. In an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Davido mentioned recording most of the album at home with his wife and her sisters, emphasizing the calming effect it had on him.
He expressed, “It was a healing process because I was happy to be making music. I was excited about it. I felt like an artiste that had just got a record deal.”
Davido revealed that he created a total of 28 songs for the album before carefully selecting the ones for release. He emphasized his desire for the album to be appreciated on its own merits rather than receiving support solely due to personal circumstances.
The singer disclosed that he found it easiest to concentrate on his music while in an airplane.
Regarding the ‘Are We African Yet’ festival in Atlanta, USA, Davido expressed his goal of providing opportunities for different artists to perform each year. He emphasized the importance of owning and promoting African culture, stating, “We cannot wait for somebody else to bring the idea. We have to do this ourselves.”
Davido envisions the festival expanding to locations beyond Atlanta, with plans to host editions in Los Angeles and Toronto in the future.
